“Cooking is like fashion. Always, I like to try to change. If I’m traveling in a different country – to Australia, the Bahamas, Budapest, Moscow – and I see a new ingredient, I like to try it in a new dish”

The dish that earned Sugath his apron is a testament to his roots and his focus on wellness: Kurakkan (Finger Millet) Pudding and a delicate Vattakka Dhalu (Pumpkin Leaf) Curry. These dishes highlight his mastery of "Hela" (traditional) healthy cooking, turning simple, medicinal ingredients into a culinary experience.
Sugath cooks for the people who have anchored his life: his three children, his supportive brother, and his wife, who currently works abroad to help sustain the family. His culinary heart is also guided by the wish of his mother, who returned to Sri Lanka and started a small food business with him, instilling in him the dream of one day being recognized as a qualified chef.
Winning MasterChef Sri Lanka would be life-changing in the most literal sense. Sugath openly shares that he currently doesn't even own a television to watch the very program he is competing in. A victory would provide the financial stability he has long struggled to find, allowing him to uplift his family’s livelihood and finally establish his name in both the modeling and culinary industries.

Hailing from Radawadunna in Gampaha, 30-year-old Diwani Welitharage balances a disciplined professional life as an Assistant Pharmacist with a vibrant, lifelong passion for the culinary arts. A home cook with 15 years of experience, Diwani was raised in a meticulous household where she developed an early love for house decoration and helping in the kitchen. Her journey to the MasterChef stage is a testament to the power of community; after she began sharing her unique recipes on social media, it was her online followers who encouraged her to apply for the competition. Despite never having lived away from her parents, she has stepped out of her comfort zone to prove that traditional Sri Lankan flavors can be reimagined for a global stage.
Signature Dish
Diwani’s culinary identity is rooted in authentic flavors with a creative twist. Her signature dishes, Kurakkan Rotti and Kottu, showcase her ability to take traditional, healthy Sri Lankan staples and elevate them through her specialty in Sri Lankan, Fusion, and Indian cuisines.
Motivation
For Diwani, cooking is more than a chore; it is a "fashion" and a way of life. She draws her strength and inspiration from her mother and grandmother, who first taught her the secrets of the kitchen. Her deepest motivation stems from her family’s resilience, particularly the three-year period following a traumatic injury to her father that left him unable to work, a challenge that solidified their family bond. She cooks to honor their support and to represent the modern Sri Lankan cook who values both heritage and innovation.
